New House: Montpelier, Indiana
It’s official - we’ve moved to Montpelier, Indiana. The house is an extreme fixer-upper, so I’m sure there will be plenty of forthcoming articles and entries about DIY home improvements.
The trip was interesting, to say the least. I was mentally prepared to “iron-man” the drive, taking power naps where possible and doing the drive in one or two stints. The plan was that I would drive the U-haul, and Sabriena and her Grandfather would split the driving of the Suburban. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way - we had power naps in Wyoming, Iowa, and somewhere in Nebraska.
In early Nebraska or possibly Iowa we stopped to rest at a rest stop because it was approaching 10pm and everyone was exhausted. It was to be my first proper night’s sleep since starting the trip, the rest consisting of power-naps. At some point, I woke up with the U-haul half-way down the exit ramp of the rest area, Sabriena shrieking at the top of her lungs. I had literally managed to put the keys in the ignition, start the vehicle, and navigate out of the parking area of the rest stop all while completely unconscious!
I sheepishly reversed back up the ramp, hoping that a trucker wouldn’t decide to exit at the time we were trying to illegally re-enter. We decided at that point that a power-nap wouldn’t do, and got several hours’ sleep instead.
I also woke up, panicked and looking for the steering wheel, while napping in the passenger seat of the Suburban while Sabriena drove back from returning the U-haul.
